Blitz does not work. Can be tanked with Raven using 2x LST and Broadsword with 4x LSE + EM/Therm resist amps + Recharge setup.

I neglected to mention that while the blitz didn't work, I did notice you do NOT have to clear the entire room. AFter some spawns died, I got the mission complete notice. As far as I can tell it was the BC spawns + frigate spawns.

Either frigates & (battle)cruisers, or it's the T2 Battleship (Diviner?)

Diviners seem to have a very long spawn timer, by the time I finished the mission only 3 had spawned, one at a time with ~5 minute intervals. I got the first one upon shooting the closest colony but that may be coincidence. Got mission complete upon destroying the colony, only the first diviner killed.
